Memberships

Membership shall be open to any artist who meets the eligibility requirements regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, age, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status or disability.

Eligibility for Membership:

  • The artist members of this organization shall:

    • Be engaged professionally in the visual arts and have training and competence in the visual arts.

    • Must reside in Martin County, or have or share a studio in Martin County, or teach art in Martin County at least 6 months of the year.

    • Be juried into the Guild by the Membership Jurying Committee.

    • Agree to the principles and Bylaws of the Guild.

    • All members must have at least basic computer skills, as all of our Guild business is conducted via various computer software programs.

    • To be considered an “artist” for the purposes of Guild membership, the member must create a body of high quality, original, unique, one-of-a-kind works, either 2D or 3D, suitable for gallery display.

Professional Artist Members*

$125/yr**

Professional Level Members are eligible to show in all Guild exhibits including the Martin County Open Studio Tour.

Professional Member requirements:

  1. A professional website and/or Facebook page/social media presence.

  2. An art resume showing exhibiting in professional-level fine art exhibitions.

  3. A professional Artist’s Statement explaining your art vision.

  4. Work that exhibits a clear understanding of the principles and techniques of excellence in their chosen medium.

  5. Must actively serve and participate on one or more committees.

Professional Members SHOULD have:

  1. Evidence of continuous improvement via classes and/or workshops.

  2. May be required to be a member of MartinArts and/or the Elliott Museum.

Emerging Professional Artist Membership

$100/yr*

Emerging Professional members must meet all the requirements of Professional members, but may not have as much exhibition experience and may still be in the process of learning the techniques of excellence in their medium.

Emerging Professional members are only eligible to show in exhibits/events that are designated for Emerging Professional Artists. Emerging Professional Level Members are eligible to participate in the Martin County Open Studio Tour.

Emerging Professional artists should clearly demonstrate ongoing and regular efforts to further their professional career through attendance at workshops, classes and seminars.

Emerging Professional Artists must also serve on a committee and may be required to be a member of MartinArts and/or the Elliott Museum.

Emerging Professional Artists may request an upgrade to Professional at any time during the year. Emerging Professionals are eligible to work with a Mentor to help them achieve Professional status.

There will be no more than 25% of the total membership as Emerging Professional members. If the number of applicants juried as Emerging Professionals exceeds that, the applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

PLEASE NOTE:

All members are required to log a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per year for the Guild in order to be eligible to participate in the annual Martin County Open Studio Tour, and in order to renew their membership for the coming year. (If you are unable or unwilling to do this, you may pay a $250 Opt-Out Fee in lieu of volunteering.)

All members are required to exhibit in a minimum of one exhibit per calendar year at the Palm Room Gallery in order to renew their membership for the coming year. This requirement will be waived if the member logs a minimum of 20 volunteer hours in the calendar year.

MAG Membership Year runs April 1st - end of March yearly.

NOTE: The Martin Artisans Guild accepts applications for membership twice a year. The deadline for submitting your application is February 15th or September 15th.

**Please note: Membership gives you eligibility to participate in our Exhibits as described above, but you must also pay the Exhibition Fee for each exhibit in which you participate. Fees vary depending on the length of the show and the time of year but are generally $100 - $150/2-month show. Also, all members are required to work at least 10 volunteer hours per calendar year for the Guild (or pay the $250 Opt-Out Fee) in order to participate in the annual Martin County Open Studio Tour. In addition, members are required to participate in at least one exhibition per calendar year in the Palm Room or contribute an additional 10 volunteer hours (for a total of 20).

Martin Artisans Guild meetings are held monthly at the Court House Cultural Center — date and time indicated on the Member Calendar in the Members Only section - usually the 3rd Thursday of every month.

Friends of the Martin Artisans Guild

For those of you who may want to support the Martin Artisans Guild but are not artists, or for organizations that want to support the Guild, you can become one of our VIP insiders by joining the Friends of the Guild. Friends will receive notifications of special member events, are eligible to participate in member workshops, and invitations to special VIP events. If you are interested in helping out with some of our activities, such as our receptions, you can volunteer for that also.

You can participate at various levels:

  • Friend - $50/yr

  • Contributor - $100/yr

  • Sponsor - $200/yr

  • Patron - $500/yr

  • Benefactor - $1,000/yr
